Sunday Fun

Our weekend o'fun ended with dinner on Sunday night.  We had fun visiting with the whole gang (minus one) from VA and got some Mario Karting in as well as some good food.  Oh - I can't forget the game of Dutch Blitz that wrapped up the whole weekend.  What is it about that game that brings out the best (& worst) in all of us?
Taco Ring was a huge success!! Click here for the recipe.

We also had a lesson on Silly Bandz.
Remember - no shooting them!!

Solid Orange

We are having a Solid Orange baby!

Last night we got our first baby shower gift!  What better way to start than a bright orange stroller?  I think we will have to figure out a way to add some purple for game day but for day to day use solid orange is perfect!

The stroller was super easy to open and it only took two of us a few minutes to figure out how to shut it!   But now we both know how to shut it so we are all set!

Oh - I almost forgot...  we asked Baby S for an opinion on the stroller and got a kick of approval!  See - we already have a tiger fan!

Weekend O'Fun

This weekend we had some friends visit from Virginia and we packed the weekend full.   My weekend officially started early since I had Friday off because of some late late nights my team put in earlier in the week at work.  I spent the day at home doing some chores and running some errands.  I tried to imagine how a baby will fit in to all of that and I think Baby S will fit just fine!  Friday night was spent at the soccer field as Davidson hosted Furman and we got to see my sister!  The game went into overtime only to still end in a tie.

Saturday we went to South Mountains State park and did a hike we had done back in June.  We hiked out to the waterfall and everyone took lots of pictures.  After all the pictures were taken we had probably spent a good 45 minutes at the waterfall and posed for one last shot a group.

After our hike we found a picnic table in the shade and enjoyed lunch.  I love picnics and wish we did more of them.  I'll have to work on that.  Saturday night we watched some football and had Papa John's for dinner.

Sunday morning we headed down to the botanical gardens in the rain.  We weren't worried about the weather because we were mainly interested in the greenhouse.  There has been a special exhibit the month of September focusing on butterflies.  There were many newly hatched butterflies in the greenhouse but we didn't realize just how new until we were about to leave.  They had cocoons out on display while waiting for the butterflies to hatch at the same time.  There were cocoons at all stages and it kinda felt like science class again but cooler.

Taking some time to let her wings dry.

This little one hadn't even moved away from the cocoon yet.

hiccups

Right this instance baby S has the hiccups!!

We can't quite get our heads wrapped around this because there's no air in there.  We've read about them so we know why they happen but we still don't fully understand them.  Obviously I can feel them but you can feel them by laying a hand on my belly too so we've both experienced this fun pregnancy oddity.

So that's our world right now - keeping up with our day to day lives, getting ready for the baby, and feeling lots of baby movement including hiccups...

Please excuse this post, as it is very unShirleylike without a picture.  I'm getting a look of bewilderment from my other half now that he realized this post wouldn't have a picture.  Sorry guys, I don't have a picture that either A. shows the hiccups or B. reminds me of hiccups.

Until next time, carry on folks, carry on...

Go Tigers!

I know I shouldn't be too excited because we've played two nobodies but I can't help but be excited college fooball is here!  We were able to watch some football on tv yesteday - even if it was Duke vs. Wake and FSU vs. Oklahoma.   What an awful day for ACC teams... but don't get me started.

Last night, we had some friends over, and I attempted a second homemade ice cream recipe.  This time I went all out and made classic peach.  I also tried my hand at waffle cones - while it wasn't a disaster, I didn't get waffle cones out of the experiment.  The ice cream was great, and the odd waffle cookies were an interesting addition.

Today we spent the day around the house cleaning and sprucing up the yard.  We supported my employer and bought some mulch which can be seen in the picture above.  Don't worry - I didn't lift any bags.  A friend helped us get it from the store by lending a set of hands and his pickup truck. (Thank You!)  It didn't take near as long as I feared to get it all spread, but there was need for a nap afterwards.

Night, y'all.

Self Portrait

So shoot me - this picture is a little blurry.  I didn't want to get the tripod out and a flash just doesn't work in a mirror.  On second thought, I should have gotten the tripod out because we have get our money's worth out of it!

This picture serves two purposes -
1. It is a 26 week belly shot.
2. It is an update on the nursery.

As you may be able to tell - I just got home for Zumba when I took this picture, so pregnancy workout clothes it is.  This picture shows you where we are in the nursery set up process.  We've got a crib, a ceiling fan, a really cool orange IKEA lamp, and the mirror has been moved along with all the other furniture.  We've finalized the pictures that will go on the wall, we've sent them to the printers, and bought the frames.

Seems like we've done a lot, but there are a few more things to do.

Firsts

A weekend of firsts - Clemson's first football game, a first meeting, a first temper tantrum, and a thirty-first birthday cookie.

We went to Clemson on Saturday for the game but only to tailgate.  We spent some time visiting with friends and had the opportunity to walk across campus as well. The weather was beautiful, especially in the shade.  I broke one of my own rules and didn't put sunscreen on even when I watched my husband put it on.  So, I have sunburn to prove my stupidity.  We watched the game at my sister's place and hung out with her and some friends for the afternoon.

On Sunday, we went to meet our friends' new baby for the first time.  What a precious little guy.  Everyone is doing really well, and we had a great photo shoot while we were there.  There were four adults and all had a job during the shoot.  Two were armed with cameras, one with a light reflector, and one of course to tend to the baby as needed...  There were multiple wardrobe changes and backdrop adjustments - it was so much fun.  Baby S better watch out!  We did laugh about the fact that the camera shutter is going to be a calming sound for our baby. Our subject was two weeks old and was a star.

Here, the newest tiger fan is practicing showing the frustration of being a true Clemson fan.
We know buddy - it's tough somedays.

Now, as I mentioned, we experience a fist temper tantrum.  So, you are probably thinking the picture above is what I'm referring to - but no we are talking about a Baby S temper tantrum.  Why or How you might ask?   Well, the little guy above had something to do with it....

We are going to have to work on sharing as soon as Baby S gets here!  Our little one was not having it when it was my turn to hold the new baby.  I actually laid the baby back in his pack and play because he was sound asleep but being kicked so hard that he was flinching...aww.  I probably held the baby for about 20 minutes and the kicking from the inside didn't stop until I put him down!  So, maybe Baby S sensed a friend and wanted to play, OR like I already suggested, maybe someone didn't want to share their mom.

Now on to 31st birthday cookies  - it's that time of year again and my other half is celebrating his birthday.  We spent the afternoon with his family and took his grandmother out to dinner.  We all stuffed ourselves at dinner but managed to have a bite or two of his birthday cookie.  Speaking of which - I think it's snack time again now.  I'm going to cut myself a piece and pour myself a big glass of milk and dig in.

Happy Labor Day!
