a zoo adventure

As previously mentioned, we will be decorating Baby S's room with our animal pictures.  Being the perfectionists that we are, we aren't 100% satisfied with some of our options.  So it was off to the NC Zoo for us today.  We got there right when it opened so that we could avoid some of the heat.  Again as previously mentioned, we means me in this instance because I overheat and he goes with the flow.  Anyway, we looked through the 500+ pictures when we got home and I think we were rewarded in our efforts.

Here are some of our fun shots from the day.

Oddly enough, this looks like one of the animated backgrounds on my new cellphone.
This is MUCH nicer.

A small reflection.

A GIANT reflection.

Baby S has a visitor.

The all knowing eye.... creepy.

This polar bear paw print was life size!

Practicing for bigger days ahead while cooling off.

New Tiger in Town

One of our most dedicated blog readers is a good friend of mine from college.  She and her husband welcomed their new baby boy into the world this week.  This post is dedicated to the newest tiger in town and his proud parents.

Welcome and Congrats!

We also had the opportunity to help decorate the baby's nursery with some of our photographs.  These animal pictures taken at the San Diego Zoo (tiger and zebra) and the Riverbanks Zoo (giraffe) are some of the pictures found in the new baby's room.  I'm not gonna lie, when she approached me for an idea for pictures in a nursery, I was quick to share something I had always thought about - zoo animals.

So now with Baby S on the way, we are working through our animal pictures and making the final cut for the pictures that will be up in our nursery.  Rest assured the tiger will be there - as for the others we'll have to wait and see....

Homemade

Step 1 required a KitchenAid, a borrowed ice cream maker thingamajig, precooking the mixture (to avoid raw eggs), and setting the mixer to STIR for 15-20 minutes.

Ok, so this is really more than one step, but I didn't start documenting until I turned the mixer on.

Step 2 is where the cookies got added, and we started doubting the capacity of the ice cream maker thingamajig.  We barely made it without any spills.

Step 3 involved four hours in the freezer.

Step 4 was enjoying homemade ice cream with a Lancaster County pretzel twist.

Step 5 prego girl hits 23 weeks.

Lucky Shot

Some may call this a lucky shot, I call it a patient shot.

Let me give you some background details on this picture.

Yesterday, the temperature was in the 90s and the humitity was in the 200s.  I'm pregnant and he's not.  I have a tendancy to overheat (a lot) and whine (a little) while he usually just lives in the moment.

So, I was sitting down in the shade wishing for a breeze while my very patient husband was watching for these lovely birds to feed.  I'm not saying I didn't watch the humming birds OR that going to the botanical gardens wasn't my idea, but I did tire and overheat much sooner than he did.

So to give credit where credit is due - he's the patient one, and I'm one of the lucky ones who gets to claim this picture in our archives.

Woah!

This is me...

Why?

Because I got an email about my high school 10 year reunion that's being planned for this fall.  10 years - really?  I'm not that "old."  The year 2000 just doesn't seem so far away.  Wasn't it last week we were playing softball, going to prom, dislocating our knees, and heading to college?  Hmm.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to go to the reunion because I'll be 9 months pregnant!

(Now's when I should insert a picture of me looking even more surprised/shocked but I don't have one.)

Me - pregnant?!?!?!

WOAH!! :) :) :)

As you can tell, things are still slowly sinking in for us.  You'd think a growing belly, feeling the baby kick, attending childbirth classes, and so on would mean the idea that we are well on our way to being parents would stick, but it just seems so surreal at times.  But then again, maybe I do get it because there's a smile plastered on my face....

"World's Worst Weather"

Mt. Washington, NH

Date 7/2/2010
Time 7:35am
Latitude 44° 16' N
Longitude 71° 18' W
Temperature 32°F
Winds 50-55mph
Wind Chill -3°F
Visability 60-65 miles

This was our taste of the weather atop Mt. Washington.  The highest wind gust ever recorded in the world was here in 1934 at 231mph - hence the nickname, "Home of the World's Worst Weather."   I wish we had video of us attempting to walk around on the summit - hilarious!  Oh and the views were amazing.
